Foundation

1971

Karl-Heinrich Schwiede founds the company Schwihag AG in Tägerwilen, Switzerland. The company’s objective is to design and market innovative components for tracks and switches in railway superstructures.

1978

First patent

The Schwihag inner bracing stock rail fastening system (IBSR) is patented and becomes the standard for the German national railway Deutsche Bahn and other leading international railway companies. This system remains the global standard for switches.

1996

Schwihag Roller System

Integration of the patented Schwihag roller systems in various switch designs. This was the breakthrough for the lubrication-free switch and its enormous advantages for life cycle costs and sustainability.

New site in Radefeld

2008

Opening of a new production site in Radefeld/Schkeuditz. The some 80 employees of Schwihag GmbH offer CNC machining, heat treatment, cold forming, plastic injection moulding and shot peening using state-of-the-art systems, as well as assembly and logistics services.

2008

UK site

Opening of the production site and sales office Schwihag UK Ltd. in Doncaster, England. The new site increases production capacity, reduces delivery times and improves regional customer care.

Switch lock

2008

Serial production of switch locking devices – DB standard lock. By using materials with special sliding properties, regreasing sliding surfaces is now only necessary as part of the switch inspection.

2019

New headquarter

Construction and move to the new company headquarter in Tägerwilen with a state-of-the-art test and development centre, high-bay warehouse for prefabricated components, rooms for training sessions, and workstations in an attractive environment.

Production in the USA

2020

Founding of Schwihag Track and Switch Technology Inc. with production and sales office in Grandview, USA. Rail fastening systems for the North and South American markets are produced here, as well as distribution of the entire Schwihag range.
